With 30 million Husseinis converging on Iraq’s holy city of Karbala for Arbaeen 2018, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei’s sharp words about the event come to mind, “The march for Arbaeen is like a soft war that splits the enemy from the inside without firing a bullet.” The Imam of the Islamic Revolution couldn’t be more correct. Arbaeen isn’t merely a religious gathering–and the largest one in the world at that–which marks 40 days of mourning following the paradoxical tragedy and triumph of Ashoura. It’s a revolutionary affirmation of counter-hegemony, anti-terrorism, Anti-Zionism, Anti-Parasitism, Anti-Imperialism, Anti-Takfirism and counter-hasbara. It’s an impregnable defense of Islam and a reminder to the various tentacles of World Arrogance that the lovers of Imam Hussein (A.S.) and the defenders of the Pure Household (A.S.) that he’s the beating heart of shall not be kept from him. Not now. Not ever.
