Moscow, SANA – Grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Badr-Eddin Hassoun stressed that Syria and Russia are “in the same ditch” because the chaos erupting in the world “targets all of us.”
The Mufti’s remarks came during his meeting with Head of Fair Russia Party and its parliamentary bloc in the Russian State Duma Sergei Mironov in Moscow on Wednesday.
He lashed out at the US and western countries who “have involved themselves in a new war” making the factors of race and religion its axis, recalling the wars in Yugoslavia and Chechnya and the attempts of inciting the communities who speak Turkish into calling for separation from Russia. The 104th Airborne Brigade of the Syrian Arab Army captured the strategic Feela Al-‘Ameed Checkpoint on Sakr Island (Hajeewa Sakr) in the Deir Ezzor Governorate after violent clashes with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham today. According to a military source, two dozen ISIS militants were killed during the clashes, including a field commander from Morocco. He also added that the 104th Brigade suffered 3 casualties during the operation to capture the checkpoint.
The Syrian Arab Army now controls 90% of Sakr Island and the two imperative suspension bridges that link the island to the mainland. Brigadier General Issam Zahreddine of the 104th Airborne Brigade is leading the operation on Sakr Island and all military activity in the Deir Ezzor Governorate. Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham received a solidarity letter from President of the National Assembly of Venezuela Diosdado Cabello-Rondon.
Al-Laham met on Wednesday the delegation of Fe-Arab organization and the Syrian community in Venezuela.
During the meeting, al-Laham described as “deep and strong” the relations between Syria and Venezuela, particularly the parliamentary ones, saying that terrorism to which Syria is exposed was supported by Western, Arab and regional governments in addition to the Turkish conspiratorial role. Syrian military forces have repelled an offensive by al-Qaeda-linked militants against the northwestern city of Idlib, a UK-based Syrian opposition group says.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday that the militants of Nusra Front, backed by other groups, attacked the city from all sides.
