An Israeli airstrike on the Syrian city of Quneitra near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights killed six fighters of Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah, including a commander and the son of assassinated senior commander Imad Mughniyeh, as well as an Iranian general.
“The Israeli enemy’s helicopters fired missiles at a group of Hezbollah fighters who were inspecting the town of Mazraat al-Amal in the Syrian Quneitra region,” a Hezbollah statement, made public on TV channel Al-Manar’s website, read. Overtly, the Israeli superpower of the Middle East has been keen to posture as having no role whatsoever in the four-year old devastating conflict in Syria, where all major regional and international powers are politically and militarily deeply involved and settling scores by Syrian blood.
In his geopolitical weekly analysis, entitled “The Islamic State Reshapes the Middle East”, on November 25 Stratfor’s George Friedman raised eyebrows when he reviewed the effects which the terrorist group had on all regional powers, but seemed unaware of the existence of the Israeli regional superpower.
It was an instructive omission that says a lot about the no more discreet role Israel is playing to maintain what the Israeli commentator Amos Harel described as the “stable instability” in Syria and the region, from the Israeli perspective of course. DAMASCUS (AFP) — The Syrian army has claimed it shot down an Israeli reconnaissance drone flying near the occupied Golan Heights, state media said Monday.
“A military source announced on Sunday night that an Israeli unmanned Skylark-1 model drone had been shot down in Quneitra province, close to the village of Hader” near the Golan Heights, the official Sana news agency said.

)- Foreign-backed militants suffered heavy losses in confrontations with the Syrian army in Quneitra and Homs provinces.
The army soldiers attacked the hideouts of the rebels in al-Madajen, Tal Mazhara, al-Bohouth, al-Elmiyah, and Rasm al-Khawaled areas in Quneitra and killed huge numbers of them during a series of operations.
