Yemeni Houthi movement’s Ansarullah fighters have entered an eastern suburb of the southern city of Taiz as they continue fighting al-Qaeda-linked militants in the country’s south.
According to local Yemeni officials on Friday, a 16-vehicle convoy of the fighters entered the area and deployed near the local airport and radio station. However, they have not entered the city yet.
The Ansarullah movement accuses authorities in city of not arresting more than a dozen extremist militants in the area.
“The local authorities have not honored their commitment to arrest 14 extremists in Taiz province,” AFP quoted a source close to Ansarullah.

Houthi movement’s Ansarullah fighters in Yemen have succeeded in taking control of a district in the southwestern province of Ibb from al-Qaeda-linked militants.
The Houthi fighters captured full control of the Hazm al-Udayn district on Monday after two weeks of intense fighting with the terrorists.

Shia Muslim Houthis have commemorated Ashura, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) in the Yemeni capital Sana’a, Press TV report.
Thousands of Shia Houthis gathered in an indoor stadium in Sana’a on Tuesday to honor Ashura, the 10th day of the lunar month of Muharram, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia imam.
“We should always remember the principles which Imam Hussein sacrificed his life for. Imam Hussein and his companions stood firmly against all the oppressors and their plots,” said Ali Jadban, a Houthi loyalist, in an address to the massive gathering of mourners in Sana’a. Al-Qaeda-linked militants in Yemen confirm they have retreated from their strongholds in the al-Manasseh area of the southern province of al-Bayda.
In a statement on Monday, al-Qaeda affiliate Ansar al-Sharia said that the Houthi movement’s Ansarullah fighters drove them out after a series of battles.
